Why is it so hard to build trust online?

Building relationships through Emotional Intelligence is key.

Black Friday/Cyber Monday/Giving Tuesday just ended and my inbox is breathing a huge sigh of relief after being bombarded for the past few weeks. So many deals to choose from… so many email lists to unsubscribe from… How do you choose who makes the cut in “email inbox survivor? For me, it’s really all about whether I trust the person to bring me value. Does it feel like the person has my best interests at heart, or am I just another number on their email list? Sometimes, I just have a feeling that if I bought someone’s product, I wouldn’t be happy with the end result.

I’ll keep the people who send me useful messages, whose products I’ve used and liked, who I feel are trying to help and build a relationship with me.

At the end of the day, people buy from people they know, like and trust. The trouble is, how do you get people to trust you if they don’t know you? The awesome part of the Internet is that we are no longer constrained by geography so it is easier to find clients who are a perfect match for who we are and what we offer. The downside of the Internet is that without meeting someone — it’s really hard to trust them. There are just too many “bad actors” out there.

So…how do you stand out in a world where millions of people are wanting to sell to your customers? You do it by building trust with you prospects.
